Chris Barge State Politics and General Assignment Reporter The son of a minister and a psychologist, I was born in Boston, raised in Atlanta, and grew up in Asheville, N.C., before attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a Morehead Scholarship. I graduated in 1998 with a self-designed degree in the psychology of religion and honors in creative writing. I’ve traveled to the former USSR, India, Nepal, Tibet, southern Africa, several Latin American countries and Europe. Those journeys reinforced my curiosity about how the world works, as well as my interest in writing about it. I moved to Colorado in 1999 and covered Mesa County for the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel for a year before moving to Boulder, where I covered various news beats and edited the outdoors page for the Daily Camera. Since coming to the Rocky in 2005, I have covered the north metro area, the city of Aurora, a U.S. Congressional race, national politics and now, the state legislature and the governor’s office. If my job were a college course I would call it Life 101: A Crash Course in Data and the Human Experience. I am married to an awesome elementary school teacher.
