Newmont to cut 280 jobs in Peru

Denver-based Newmont Mining Corp., the largest U.S. gold producer, will cut 280 jobs at Yanacocha gold mine in Peru and is re-evaluating expansion projects because of declining metal prices and tight credit. The mine employs 3,000 workers and 6,000 contractors.
