Gallas back in charge of Northglenn football

It’s not that Scott Gallas has been out of coaching football at Northglenn recently, he just hasn’t been the one in charge.
That changed Wednesday when Gallas again took the reins of the Norse football program, a program he has been involved with since 1984. Gallas had been Northglenn’s head coach from 1993 until four years ago, when he backed off into an assistant’s role.
“I really felt a need to get back in as a head football coach again,” said Gallas, who has a 92-51 record with the Norse. “I really missed it. The last four years I’ve just been teaching and doing family things in the fall. I’ve got five years until I retire. I have a lot of support in our school and community and it’s a good situation. Coaching is something that has always been in my blood.”
Gallas, a physical education teacher at the school, started as an assistant football and track coach, before taking over the football team in 1993. He has been the head boys track coach the past six seasons.
Northglenn won six Front Range League titles and made nine state playoff appearances during Gallas’ 12 years at the helm. The Norse finished state runners-up in 1993, losing to Overland in the championship game, and finished 13-1, the best mark in school history.
Gallas, 49, was selected the Front Range League coach of the year five times and was the Rocky’s All-Colorado coach of the year in 1993.
“I’m excited and I still have fine connections with the kids,” Gallas said. “We’ve got some good young kids coming up and we should be OK. We’ve had good numbers here, but I still will be trying to get more kids involved in our program.”
