Teen killed in Arapahoe County crash; four others injured

A 13-year-old boy was killed, and four other people, including another child, suffered serious injuries late Monday when a truck and sport utility vehicle crashed near Bennett.
The teenager, Daniel Salazar, was dead at the scene, the State Patrol said.
CSP troopers believe the driver of a 2006 Ford F250 truck ran a stop sign and collided with a 2004 Dodge Durango that was carrying the two children, a State Patrol spokesman said.
The crash occurred at East Quincy Avenue and Arapahoe County Road 129 about 9 p.m. Monday, troopers said. The Ford truck carrying a couple was heading north on the county road and the SUV carrying the two children and the driver was traveling east on Quincy.
The driver of the truck allegedly ran a stop sign at the intersection and crashed into the SUV, said Trooper Ryan Sullivan, CSP spokesman. After the collision, the pickup rolled onto its side, and the SUV crashed into a fence post.
Yanira Salazar, 28, the SUV's driver, was taken to the Medical Center of Aurora with serious injuries. The surviving passenger, Vivian Salazar, 8, was flown to Children's Hospital.
The pickup driver, Dylan Zweygardt, 23, of Parker, and his passenger, Kathlene Toft, 20, of Bennett, were taken to the Medical Center of Aurora, where they also were being treated for serious injuries, troopers said.
Investigators are looking at the possibility that even though the truck's driver may have blown through a stop sign, neither motorist could have seen each other before the wreck because the intersection has elevated embankments. Charges are pending in the case.
