Counterfeiter swaps $50 for thin mints
Published March 7, 2007 at midnight
A man used a phony $50 bill to buy $9.75 worth of cookies from Girl Scouts at an Albertsons store in Louisville, according to a police report.
The man bought Thin Mints, Tagalongs and Do-Si-Dos, paid with the bogus money, collected $40.25 in change, and left, according to the Boulder Daily Camera.
One of the parents took the suspicious bill to a U.S. Bank branch inside the store where it was confirmed to be counterfeit.
"Thats pretty low-level," said Chris Prior, who helped his wife and 8-year-old daughter with the cookie sale. "I hope they choke on those Samoas, lets put it that way."
The suspect was described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s, 5-feet-10, with a thin build and scruffy mustache. He was wearing a beige or tan coat.
Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Louisville police at 303-666-8634.
