Equal rights needed in abortion decisions

While reading (Murder charge in baby’s death/dtd 11/16 07), the first thing that came to mind was the lack of equality in this issue. A woman has the right to go to a doctor and dispose of their baby like a piece of trash, because the fetus isn’t a person yet. If a man does anything to cause a woman to miscarriage then the fetus is considered a person and the man is charged with murder. I have one simple question, how is this right? It should be one way or the other, either it is legal to kill a fetus or it’s not, gender shouldn’t have any bearing on this issue. We are talking about two issues here, abortion and discrimination. If a woman can decide to kill their child then the father should be able to decide to discard the child also.

Abortion is going to be a big issue next year. When a woman decides to spread her legs and get pregnant her body is no longer just hers, she doesn’t have any more right to terminate than the father. If we are going to let woman choose to have an abortion then we must give a man the right to terminate any responsibility for that child. This would only be fair and equal. I don’t believe anybody should have a right to murder but if we are going to allow it then men should have the right to force the woman to abort or relinquish any responsibility for that child. This would be equal rights in this matter.
